For a small, fairly flat lawn up to about 500m², the Segway Navimow i105E is the value pick at £699 direct from Navimow UK. For big or steep gardens, Mammotion's all-wheel-drive LUBA range climbs slopes up to 80%, but the LUBA 2 AWD is sold out in the UK and the LUBA 3 AWD (from £2,099) has effectively replaced it.

Wire-free mowers swap the buried boundary cable for satellite positioning (RTK GNSS), cameras and, increasingly, LiDAR. You draw the boundary in an app instead of pegging a wire round the garden.

Segway Navimow i105E: best for small gardens

The i105E is designed for lawns up to 500m², with a 30% maximum slope, an 18cm cutting width and a 20–60mm cutting height set by hand. Navimow's EFLS 2.0 system combines RTK satellite positioning with a camera (visual SLAM) so the mower can keep its position where tree cover or walls weaken the satellite signal.

The strategic win

The cheapest way into wire-free mowing from a major brand, and the camera back-up is exactly what tree-lined UK gardens need.

The technical catch

A 30% slope limit and 60-minute runtime per charge rule it out for steep or large plots. You also need a spot with a clear view of the sky for the RTK antenna, and anti-theft GPS tracking needs a separately sold 4G module.

Mammotion LUBA AWD: best for big or steep lawns

Mammotion's LUBA range uses all-wheel drive. The LUBA 2 AWD is rated for an 80% (38°) climb, a 400mm cutting width and up to 180 minutes of mowing per charge on the larger models. In the UK, though, every LUBA 2 AWD variant was sold out on Mammotion's own store when we checked, and the 1,000m² version listed on Mammotion's global spec sheet isn't sold on the UK store at all.

The LUBA 3 AWD is the current flagship on the UK store, adding 360° LiDAR to the AI cameras. Mammotion's UK blog has also announced a LUBA 4 AWD, which wasn't in the UK shop when we looked.

The strategic win

If your garden has real hills, AWD and an 80% slope rating are the specs that matter. Buy the LUBA 3 AWD rather than chasing LUBA 2 stock.

The technical catch

Size and price. These are big, heavy mowers (the LUBA 2 AWD weighs about 17–18kg) and cost two to six times as much as a Navimow i105E. Paying for 5,000m² of capacity is wasted money on a typical semi-detached garden.

How to choose

1. Measure your lawn

Use the recommended area, not the maximum. Makers rate area at full charge in good conditions.

2. Be honest about slopes

Slope is quoted as a percentage (rise over run), not degrees. A 30% slope is about 17°. Edge slopes are usually rated lower than the main lawn.

3. Check your sky view

RTK needs a clear view of the sky for its reference antenna. Heavy tree cover or tall walls are where camera or LiDAR back-up earns its keep. Some models use network RTK instead of a garden antenna; check coverage for your postcode on the maker's site.

4. Budget for extras

Garages, 4G anti-theft modules and spare blades are often sold separately.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best wire-free robot lawn mower for a small garden in 2026?

For lawns up to about 500m², the Segway Navimow i105E is the value pick. Navimow UK lists it at £699 (checked 6 November 2026), with RTK and camera navigation and a 30% slope limit.

Is the Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD still on sale in the UK?

Mammotion UK still lists the LUBA 2 AWD 3000X (£2,399), 5000X (£2,699) and 10000X (£4,099), but all three were sold out on 6 November 2026. The LUBA 3 AWD, from £2,099, is the current flagship.

Do wire-free robot mowers work under trees?

RTK satellite positioning can weaken under heavy tree cover. Models that add cameras or LiDAR, such as Navimow's EFLS 2.0 or Mammotion's LUBA 3 AWD, are designed to keep navigating when the satellite signal drops.
